AI Institutional Transformation Research Group is an interdisciplinary team of scholars founded in April 2023. We investigate how political and epistemic institutions can adapt to the challenges of artificial intelligence development. Our research focuses on midrange "slow takeoff" scenarios where gradual capability improvements create dynamic pressure for institutional innovation but not abrupt leaps and breaks.
Our work addresses the fundamental tension between the rapid pace of technological change and the slower adaptation cycles of social institutions. We aim to generate evidence-based recommendations for institutional designers, policymakers, and democratic innovators navigating the transition to an AI-infused society.
